After a long period of dating inactivity, I’m finally back. It all started at the gym for me one day. I know, I know, this sounds a little unreal but trust me it’s the honest-to-god truth. I’d like to preface this by saying that I am not one of those gym-rat types who, with a full face of make-up, work out only in hopes of attracting the opposite sex. Totally not my scene. You see, I am not exactly the poster child for good health and well-being but ever since the doctor told me I was borderline obese, I knew I had to do something. So, as of January 1st, I’ve been working out semi-regularly. Somehow, I got a date out of this. More »

First impressions really do matter. I’ve been on a handful of dates where the guy seemed to have disregarded that through the way he dressed. What he wore affected the date — I couldn’t seem to get my mind off how poorly he was dressed. This is not because I’m shallow, but as a woman — we place a lot of care and attention to how men place care and attention to themselves. If a man truly cares about his appearance, this speaks volumes to us. It shows us that they can take care of themselves. Read on for my first date fashion tips for men: More »

From Ningin: In most American high schools, May is the time to bust out the yearbooks, go to prom and maybe say your final goodbyes. Everything done this month has to be memorable. It’s no different at Mixr High. Only, we’re not saying goodbye to you — nor are we an actual high school. We’re also probably won’t go to prom with you if you ask us. (We’ll sign your yearbooks though.) We just want you to have a Memorable May with Mixr. More »

When it comes to dating, True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard’s got one golden rule: Be spontaneous. When asked about dating during the premiere of his recent film Metropia, he had this to say: “I try not to plan it out — it [dating ] has a tendency to get a little stiff and contrived if you work on it too hard. So, I try to be spontaneous.” More »

The age-old, “I’m too busy to be dating” excuse just doesn’t work anymore. Not while people like Matt Prager are around. New York-based Prager is what you call a Cyber Cyrano, but instead of whispering to you from a bush, he’ll tell you via email. It’s all part of his business of online match making. Prager meets with clients to figure out what their interests are, then manages their online dating profiles. You may think you’re talking to Mr. Smooth, but it could very well be just Prager. It’s Friday. You know what that means. It’s time for your weekly dose of pick-up lines — good, bad and ugly.

The Good: (cheesy) Hello. Cupid called. He says to tell you that he needs my heart back. The Bad: (plain bad) If you and I were squirrels, could I bust a nut in your hole? More »

I took to the streets, (and by streets I mean Facebook and Twitter) to ask one simple question that got many diverse answers: In dating, what’s a deal breaker for you? This is what people had to say in response: More »

According to a recent study, a sense of humor, kindness or income aren’t the biggest deciding factors in whether or not a person walks away with a date after a speed dating event. University of Edinburgh psychological scientist Alison Lenton and University of Essex economist Marco Francesconi analyzed 84 speed-dating events to find that height and weight are the most important deciding factors in speed dating!
