After a long period of dating inactivity, I’m finally back. It all started at the gym for me one day. I know, I know, this sounds a little unreal but trust me it’s the honest-to-god truth. I’d like to preface this by saying that I am not one of those gym-rat types who, with a full face of make-up, work out only in hopes of attracting the opposite sex. Totally not my scene. You see, I am not exactly the poster child for good health and well-being but ever since the doctor told me I was borderline obese, I knew I had to do something. So, as of January 1st, I’ve been working out semi-regularly. Somehow, I got a date out of this.
I met Buck on the elliptical machines. To paint you a picture, I was in my most unattractive state. No make-up, sweats, unwashed hair — it’s the gym, right? He initiated conversation with me by mentioning how loud the music coming from my iPod earphones were. It really couldn’t have been helped, I tend to listen to alternative grunge rock from the ’90s when working out. No one listens to grunge rock on low volume. Turns out, he is as big a fan of grunge and the 90s as I am. (!!!) My usual hour and 40 minute routine seemed to go by quickly!
Aside from giving good elliptical conversation, Buck was quite a tall drink of water. He was indeed tall, dark and handsome, built well — not to mention his teeth. I am a big fan of men with nice teeth. He’s around my age, and is a full-time graphic designer for a marketing local marketing company. All this AND he’s asked me out on a date. Me in all my sweaty, out-of-breath-on-the-elliptical-machine-fat-girl glory!
Our first date is set for next week. Everyone, wish me luck!
