Although celebrating Valentine’s Day is a relatively new concept, it has been an annual commemoration held on February 14th for hundreds of years. Valentines Day is where intimate couples express their love for each other by exchanging gifts. Specifically, on this day flowers, chocolates and cheesy letters are the ideal gifts for your significant other. However, you cannot give your companion just any flower as each flower possesses a deepful meaning. Don’t send the wrong intentions and do it right this Valentines day with the help of this guide.
Roses
Although orchids and carnations can just be as beautiful on Valentines Day, it has always been a tradition to give roses. Roses are widely popular for any occasion, but particularly on Valentine’s Day. With roses you can’t really go wrong as it is widely known for its symbol of passion and love. But the question is ‘what colour to get?’
There are a vast range of colors that you can choose from that all symbolizes a particular trait. Here are just some of the more popular colors and their meaning. Be sure to let the recipient really know your true intention.
Red Roses
What gets more apparent than the typical red? Red roses proclaim the simple cliché phrase “I love you.” Nothing can go beyond from expressing your love with red. Red roses are the ultimate symbol of love and enduring passion. However, red roses come at a high cost especially in February. If you do not have enough money, consider investing in another color or another flower.
Yellow Roses
Yellow roses are not suitable if you are planning to convey your love as yellow roses indicates friendship and freedom. Yellow roses are appropriate for sending congratulatory messages to newlyweds and graduates. Hence if your intentions are more romantic, yellow roses are a huge no- no!
Lilac Roses
Despite the symbolic meaning behind this flower (to whom many can relate to), this flower is the most downgraded and unappreciated. Lilac roses indicate how the sender has fallen in love at first sight with the recipient and is ‘enchanted’ by their beauty. In this case be unique and if you feel this way towards the recipient send them Lilac roses instead of typical red.
White Roses
White represents purity likewise the white rose also symbolizes truth and innocence. They also transmit other messages such as “I miss you” and “You’re heavenly.’ If these are your intentions white may be the better alternative. However, if you are planning to incorporate white roses with another flower/color you must be careful. In some cases mixing white with another flower may mean death!
Pink Roses
Pale pink roses connote grace, gentleness, and gratitude which is the perfect flower color for someone you look up to and respect. If you are going for a more youthful flower try a light pink rose as it portrays fun and happiness.
Dead Roses
Can it get anymore obvious? Regardless of the original color, dead/wilted roses expresses “It’s over” loud and clear. Albeit it’s horrifying meaning this tradition has been long lost over time. I don’t recommend this cause you will be the hated stock in town!
Hopefully you can use this as a guide or as a reference for your future dates! If you are the sender make sure to master these tips! If you are the recipient, make sure to interpret the sender’s message carefully!
